How To Plan A Spring Break Vacation

The best way to have a great spring break vacation is to plan. You know what they say about best laid plans. Vacations can go horribly wrong if you take the necessary steps you need to plan it down to the detail. Considering it is spring break it doesn’t mean that you can’t plan it down to the detail. Granted you don’t have to plan every single minute of the day but as far as hotel, airfare and travel arrangements go, you could get your spring break off to a great start. Here are some great tips to help you get started.

Tip # 1: Research and Choose Your Destination. There are so many great places to go on spring break. You could choose some popular cities in Florida such as Key West or Panama City Beach (stay away from Fort Lauderdale, it has changed). You could choose a great city in Mexico like Mazatlan or Cabo. If you wanted to take a different approach and try places like Aruba, Jamaica or Acapulco.

Once you have chosen your destination, it is a good idea to research the location and see if it is safe. You could also find out where the local hotels and restaurants are. Some beach spring break locations have beachfront hotels but in places like Mexico, the areas around the hotels may not be so nice. So make sure that you do some thorough research before settling on a destination.

Tip # 2: Choosing Your Hotel. There will be hundreds of students planning the same spring break trip as you are. It is important to start looking at hotels and motels for the destination that you have chosen. Most spring break locations have cheap enough hotel accommodations but you have to get there first. So, once you have chosen you location, call or look up online the hotels in the area. Then request a brochure and a price list for the time that you are going to be down there.

Then once you have all of your information, you can narrow down what hotel or motel you want and then book your reservation on advance. Some hotels tale reservations 3 to 6 months in advance. You want to get a room and lock in your price, the closer it gets to spring break the rates will skyrocket.

Tip # 3: Leave Your Valuables At Home: There is no need to bring expensive jewelry on vacation, especially spring break. You may also want to leave behind your laptop too. Many students have camcorders; if you must bring them make sure that they are kept in a locked suitcase during your trip.

Lastly, Plan Ahead. Don’t wait for the last minute. If you do, you could either be left without a room or you will paying a lot of money for your airfare and hotel, which you could have had cheaper if you planned ahead. If you plan where you are going, know the area and make your reservations on time then you should have no problem having a great time at spring break.
