    If you are looking for a new way to spend spring break and the beach is not the way you want to go. You can try doing something that would help others, such as join the Break Away Foundation. The mission of the Break Away Foundation is to help and train college campuses and local communities with promoting an alternative way to inspire lifelong active citizenship. When you sign up to be a participant, you will become more involved and more experienced in all sides of any social issue within a community. There are 8 great points that you will learn when you become a member of Break Away.

    The first is Strong Direct Service, Orientation, Education, Training, Reflection, Reorientation, Diversity, Alcohol and Being Drug Free. The program begins with the opportunity to provide volunteers to become directly involved in services that address important but unrecognized social needs. You will get to know the mission of the group and learn the objectives from the break program and other agencies and their affiliations. The program will provide the proper amount of training with the skills that you will need to perform the tasks and projects that the group has assigned.

    There are so many great publications offered by this organization for young people. One of them is the Break Away: Organizing an Alternative Spring Break, this publication will offer some interesting topics such as creating a break program, finances and finding a site and reorientation. This is a 90
    page booklet and it is $ 15.00. There is also Site Leader Survival Manual helps the leaders become successful in the community.

    There are several ways that you can join; you can join through a business, schools or an individual. If your school does not have a sign up for this program then you can choose to sign up as an Individual Member. This would mean that you would be able to read about active citizenships, social issues and build on longterm solutions to problems in the community.

    There are two
    day training seminars that are geared to the specific need of a certain college to university that is available through the Site Leader Retreats. The program can work with a host school that works to create an agenda and a training session that provides college leaders the right tools that are needed to be the best team leader that you can.

    This program has been around a long time and with the many students looking for an alternative way to spend their spring break, it is a good combination. The national Break Away Office is located in Atlanta, Georgia. They are a not for profit organization and provide some really great services for the community. You could get a real sense of purpose when joining one of these groups.
