Most college students work in order to pay off their student loans or pay their cell phone bills. These students go to school by day and work by night. Often with the hectic schedule students fall behind in their studies or they are too busy studying that they can’t make it to work on time. Wouldn’t it be great if they can make money in their spare time? They can, it is called the Internet. There is plenty of money to be had online and it doesn’t include spending money on products or waiting for some fly by night company to pay you a check that chances are is going to bounce anyway.

There are many ways to make money online; one of the most common is blogging or article writing. Blogging has caught on like wildfire. So much in fact that there are millions and millions of blog website online. But don’t let that stop you, since there is plenty of money to be made. To get started you should choose a topic that you are comfortable with, the first rule of writing is write what you know. You can write about your own life experiences in college and how you are adjusting to it.

You can choose to blog about anything from weekly sports events, TV shows or if you have a hobby like skateboarding or baking then you can create your own blog based on what you like to do. The first thing you need is a website name, make sure that you keep it as short as can be; you want visitors to remember the name. Choose something that is easy to spell, if you are going to play with the letter like adding an extra letter; make sure it is something simple.

Next you are going to need hosting. There are hundreds of these companies online. The thing that you want most from your hosting company is not just a good price but you want 99.9% or better uptime, easy set up and 24/7 customer service. You will find companies like Host Gator and Go Daddy will have what you need, even registering your domain name as well. Once you have set up your hosting and registered your domain you will need to set up a blog, WordPress is the most popular and perhaps the easiest to work with.

Then you will want to sign up for an Adsense account with Google. The ads that you see on other people’s websites are called adsense ads. Every time a user clicks on these ads you will make money. Don’t expect miracles overnight since you will be setting a new blog, you have to find ways of getting your readers there. Since you are a high school or college student a great way is to place flyers around school and let people know that you have a great new site and they should check it out.

Once you have established a blog with some readers and you keep putting content up every day, you will see that Google will start to give you some searches and you will attract more readers. Remember keep the content fresh and keep readers coming back for more.
