Student Work – Where to Find It

Related Articles

When you’re in college you have a variety of things that you have to do. You have to attend classes. You have to finish homework. You have to socialize (a large part of college is learning how to socialize) and you have to work. Unless you’ve got tons of money stashed away, working is an essential part of going to college so that you can have money to spend when/if you need it. But many students don’t know how to get student work. Fortunately there are many ways to get student work when you live in a college town.

    On Campus

Most college use students to do the brunt of their grunt work. Students are the ones who work in the cafeteria, and are the ones who work in the snack bar. Students are the ones who help in the offices, and who help in the library. Finding students work on campus is the best if you’re new to campus and don’t know your way around, or if you don’t have a car. Many colleges have rules about freshmen and cars, so freshmen often try to snag the student work at the college because they can’t drive anywhere. Off Campus

If you live in a college town, there are hundreds of opportunities for you to work off campus. College towns take advantage of the fact that there are many eager young potential employees that live at the college who are looking for students work. They know that they can get an employee for little or nothing, and that they can mold the employee to be the type of employee that they’re looking for.

If you’re looking for work, start by checking out the local paper. There are often tons of jobs there for you to choose from. If you don’t have a car, try to get a job at a store that is fairly close to the college, so that, should the need arise, you can walk to work. Check out your school bulletin boards as well, as many business owners place help wanted ads on the boards.

Another good tip? Check for student work during the summer. In the summer the college has fewer students, making it easier to get a job. Once you get the job, ask about keeping it when you’re in college, so that you can earn money without having to compete with the other students.
