What You Need For CollegeRelated ArticlesIf you are one of the many students that will live on Campus, you will be getting ready to start classes soon. But now your main priority is to set up your dorm room. Many first year students make the mistake of bringing everything they own into a dorm room. Dorm rooms are not that spacious so you need to be careful not to bring too much space and crowd up your room. You should know by now whether you have a single room or you will have a roommate. Here are a few tips for both.
If you have a single room, then you will have a bit more room. You will already have the bed and a desk. Find out of there is room for a mini fridge; you can find an inexpensive on eBay or Craig’s List. Now you can have some comforts of home and save money. You won’t be running to the vending machines every time you want a drink or a snack. There should be a closet in your dorm room, with the amount of studying that you will have to do, you should not have to worry about cleaning our closets or under the bed. Keep everything like shoes and clothes neat in the closet or dresser. Make the things you need on a daily basis on hand so if you are running late that day then you will have everything you need in place. If you are brining a radio or TV make sure that you have room for it and remember that there are others living around you keep the noise down at night. Find out who the RA will be and make sure that you have any necessary phone numbers you may need on hand all the time. Now if you are sharing a dorm room, you want to get along with your roommate right? The same rules apply, keep your things on your side and don’t leave any clothes lying around. If you have a TV or radio offer to share it, (if you like your roommate). Keep the noise down while they are studying and try to have an understanding about having friends in the dorm room. If the room is not that big you don’t want to feel crowded. Making friends at your first year of College can be intimidating; chances are your roommate will be your first friend. You don’t have to invite your roommate home for holidays, but this will be your roommate for a long time and you want to make sure that you have a friendly relationship. Chances are that it is their first year as well, so they will have the same concerns as you do. First year College students tend to survey their surroundings since they don’t know what to expect. Some students request single rooms for that reason, if you want to get into living a peaceful and mostly stress free first year, try to request a roommate and get to know them. Then as you start to attend classes you will have more confidence in making new friends. |
