What Are Student Grants

Once you become a senior in high school, there are lots of terms that are going to be thrown at you that you may not understand. Some of these terms include: Loans, Scholarships, and Grants. While you may understand what a loan is, if you’re like the average student, you have a hard time figuring out what a scholarship and a grant are, and what the difference between the two of them is. It is a good idea to learn as much about student grants as you can, because they’re a great way for you to be able to finance your education without you, or your parents, going into severe debt.

What Is a Grant?

A grant is a fund that is given to people who need it. There are grants for all sorts of things. Many schools use grants to build their playgrounds, and lots of small counties use grants to help pay for their ambulance and fire departments. Grants can come from any source, but when you’re talking about student grants, you’re likely talking about government grants. The government pays billions of dollars a year to help students to go to college, and they often do that in the form of a student grant. A student grant usually goes straight to the college and does not have to be paid back.

What Is The Difference?

What is the difference between a scholarship and students grants? That is a very good question. Neither of them have to be paid back and both are used for schooling. Most often, scholarships come from private resources or from the college itself. Scholarships often have a condition attached to them – for instance, you can only receive the money “if” you get a specific grade point average. Grants, however, usually do not. Once you are qualified and have received a grant, the money is yours to pay for your schooling. Grants also come usually only from the government, when it comes to talking about student grants, which is something else that makes them differ from a scholarship.

When you’re figuring out your schooling and how much money it’s going to take, make sure you look for student grants. Student grants are often much easier to get than scholarships and they can help to take the burden off of the individual footing the bill for your education.
