College costs are on the rise but there are some places where help is available. It may be the last thing you would think of but how about Employer Reimbursement Programs or the ERP. The reason why some companies may be involved in this is because they are always looking for College Educated employees and these days they are hard to find. So many employers are offering a partial or in some cases a full tuition reimbursement program. Let’s take a look and see how some of these programs work.

The basic requirements of these programs are that you must be employed full time and eligibility can range from employment after one year or more. It is up to the employer, if your employers have this program find out when you can become eligible. The tuition that can be reimbursed can be as little as 10% all the way to 100%. This would be a huge burden off your shoulder even if they cover only about 25%. Anything is better than nothing. Sometimes employers have sponsors who are actually running the tuition reimbursement programs, these sponsors do not include textbooks or other fees, and they may be strictly tuitionbased programs only.

You will have an out of pocket expenses but if you have received grants or scholarships then you won’t have to worry about it. You have to read the rules and the regulations of these programs; for example, if you drop out of school while you are working then the tuition reimbursement program may not cover you. You may also be required to have a certain grade point average. There are other different types of Tuition Reimbursement Programs available.

Companies that offer scholarships such as Scholarship America, InperpLX and Act offer their services for certain companies that offer these programs. These services may include everything from plan advertisements to design and sorting of reimbursement applications. Not all employers are going to have this program, but there are many out there that do. In fact it may be in the best interest for everyone if these programs existed.

They benefit the employer since now they have a College Educated Employee that will stay for a long employment period. This program benefits the employee since they will be reimbursed for College. This takes a huge financial burden off of your mind. If you are interested in these programs, you can do some research when you are deciding on a company to find employment with. You don’t want to limit yourself to a company that only has these programs.

When you are looking for that first job while in College or after you graduate, there maybe a great company with excellent benefits but no reimbursement program and there may be a company that has tuition reimbursement and no benefits. These are some of the options that have to be weighed out. Don’t settle on the very first job that comes your way. Finding a job takes time and you want to have a job that you can enjoy going to every day.
