Every one deserves to get a College Education. Sometimes we cannot do it on the standard timeline, but everyone should be allowed to get the education they need and deserve. This goes for single moms, single moms often drop out of high school and go back for their GED, and they want to make a better life for their children and for themselves. Single Moms have the same opportunities to get financial aid as others students.

To make things easier on the Single Mom, here are some grant ideas of where you can get started. One of the most popular methods of student financing is through the popular Federal Pell Grant. Since this is a grant and not a loan, there is no need for repayment of the money given to you. These grants are most often given to students who are enrolled in an undergraduate program who have not received any professional degree of any sort. The maximum amount of the Pell Grant Award is $ 4,731, this can change from year to year but the amount is close. The amount that you will receive is based on not just how much you need but also what it costs a school for cost of you attending that school. You will receive more money if you attend on a full time basis.

You could also apply for the Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant or FSEOG. This Grant is for undergraduate students who are in great need for the money to go to college. You will have to apply for the Pell Grant too; this supplemental money will be determined based on what your Expected Family Contributions are. If your parents will not be able to contribute much to your education then you will have a better chance of getting this grant. This is a grant so it does not have to be paid back. If you are enrolled on high school, you can talk to your guidance counselor and if you are not you can call the United States Department of Education for more information.

There are other grants available to Single Moms such as the Work Study Program, most Colleges and Universities have them. This is where the school that you are enrolled in gives you a job anywhere on Campus and in return you work for the school and they subtract what you earn from the tuition you owe. This is done through school hours only. You can call the College you will be attending and ask to speak to someone about these programs.

There are so many resources out there for Single Moms, they should always feel that they have an option to better themselves and give their children a better life. You should always check your resources for grants first since they don’t have to be paid back. Then apply for the loans, the more grants you get the less money you will have to borrow. Remember before applying for any loan or grant you should fill out the Free Federal Aid for Student Loans. You can find the application online.
