Here are just a few scholarships that are out there just waiting for students to apply.
The Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Contest, yes we wrote that correctly. This scholarship is awarded to any high school student in the United States who can do the best duck call. The students have 90 seconds to execute 4 duck calls, the call of the hail, feed, comeback and mating. There is no entrance fee but anyone interested must apply through the Stuttgart Chamber of the Commerce in Stuggart, Ark. The first prize is $ 1,500, the first runner up is $ 500, the second runner up is $ 300 and the 3rd runner up is $ 200. If you want more information check out www.stuttgartarkansas.com. The Duck Brand Stuck at Prom Scholarship Contest, this scholarship is sponsored by the HENKEL Corp Duck Brand Duct Tape. You must enter as a couple, each couple must submit to the company one color picture whether a professional or an amateur photographer took these pictures. The couple must be dressed in prom attire. You must submit each applicants name, address; phone number, email address and what grade you are in. You must also write down the nearest major city closest to your hometown. You must be willing to sign a release form by any applicant under 18 years old. The applicant’s parents must sign this release. The maximum award is $ 2500.00 Another out there scholarship is the L Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future Contest. This award is not as strange as the other two but it is not a mainstream scholarship. This scholarship is for students whose goal it is to be a writer. These scholarships are offered on a quarterly basis and the only entry requirement is that you submit a short story or a novelette which is any works under 17,000 words. The category must be in science fiction or fantasy. The first place prize is $ 1000, the 2nd place prize is $ 750, and the 3rd place prize is $ 500. There are 4 1st place stories that will go on for another judging process and the winner can take an additional $ 4000 in awards. Not all scholarships are all business, these scholarships that we have profiled are fun and students tend to apply themselves more when there is just a little bit of fun included. These scholarships are offbeat and a bit strange but the concept is all the same. They just want to help student get some additional financing for the College careers. |
