How To Improve Your Athletic Scholarship Chances

    There are many high school students who excel not only in the classroom but on the playing field as well. Athletic Scholarships are becoming more elusive because students just don’t know what to do about applying for them. Students are under the impression much too often that by playing well in a sport is enough for a scholarship but it isn’t. If you really want to improve your chances of getting an athletic scholarship then you must keep up your grades as well. Most High Schools have rules like a grade point average must be a C in order to play but in order to secure these scholarships you have to do better.

    Here are some scholarships that could help you get additional funding for College. The National Athletic Organizations such as the NCAA, NAIA and the NJCAA. There are three main organizations that provide the rules of eligibility, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Then we have what is called the Popular Athletic Scholarships, these are the most advertised and the most competitive awards offered by the NCAA. There is a fierce competition for these awards but there are so many awards that are not so popular that athletes are just not looking for.

    The amounts of money each scholarship will bring will vary, some depend on if you are attending school on a full time or a part time basis. There are scholarships for both and if you attend part time then you will receive the appropriate amount for a part time student and same for full time. There are over 125,000 students who are currently receiving the NCAA part time and full time scholarships. Full time scholarships will include tuition, room and board if needed, books, transportation and other expenses. Partial awards may cover tuition and books.

    There are thousands of scholarships out there; there are Hockey Scholarships, Archery Scholarships and even Rodeo Scholarships. You just have to know they are out there and finding them is easy if you know how to use a computer. To gain these scholarships you want to stay away from the popular scholarship and look for the lesserknown awards. These can be found easily online. There are plenty of scholarships out there for Women Athletes too. Just as there are Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis, and Swimming Scholarships out there, there are awards for Archery, Bowling, Rifling and Rodeo Scholarships. If you are a woman athlete competing in men’s sports like ice hockey, rowing and lacrosse, these are considered to be men’s collegiate sports even though you are on the women’s teams, you can apply for the same scholarships as the men.

    If you are serious about getting these athletic scholarships then you should Excel in the Sport you are playing, you should have the drive and the passion to go after these scholarships. Then once you get these scholarships you have to make the commitment to perform with excellence and passion when you play for the school team. You have to make a commitment to keep up your academic studies as well.
