    There are many minority students that put off going to College for the simple reason that they cannot afford it. There are hundreds of grants available for minority students and the best thing about these grants is that they do not need to be repaid. Minority Grants work different than other scholarships since they are provided to students who are in the most need of the funding for College. There are two different categories of Minority Grants. The first is the Ethnic Minority Grant; these are designed to provide students with funding based mostly on ethnic challenges. These grants are for African American or Hispanic Students.

    The second type of grant is the Non Ethnic Minority Grant. These grants are given on a need basis with students who have physical disabilities. There are grants for Women, which also help make it possible for female students to get into the fields of study they want without financial barriers getting in their way. The best way to go about finding loans is through Federal and State grants. Some of the State Grants will depend on your state in which you live in. There is a website called collegescholarships.org and if you click on the Minority Grants you will find a link to state links. Simply check on your state and you will find out how to apply for these grants.

    Federal Grants include Pell Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, National SMART Grants and Academic Competitiveness Grants. The Pell Grant is one of the most sought after grants. If you are eligible for these grants they can really help you with the tuition on a semester basis. Another great place to get information on Minority Grants is through Minority Foundations. Places like the United Negro College Fund, Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Hispanic College Funds.

    If you check online you can find a variety of places where you can find information. Check with you guidance counselors and they can give you plenty of information on where you can find them. Make sure that you start early since some of them have deadlines ending in June. You will also want to fill out the FAFSA. You can find these applications either online or through your guidance counselor.

    There are so many places and different resources where you can find these grants. Grants are a great help since they do not have to be paid back and the burden is off of yourself and your parents. The Pell Grants has some other grants that work in conjunction with these grants. These grants are the SMART Grants and the Academic Competitiveness Grants. There is a student grant out there for everyone. So make sure that you exhaust all of your possibilities and find out how these grants work, how much they offer and where you can apply. Some of these grant applications may require a filing fee so make sure that you check. Finding funding is important for any College Student and if you put the time in you will find everything you need and more.
