Grants For Nursing Students

One of the most high demand careers is Nursing. There are not enough students who enroll in these programs because of the extensive schooling and the cost associated with the education. For those students who are interested in becoming a Nursing Student, take a look and see the options that are available to you in the way of grants. The difference in grants and loans is that grants do not have to be paid back. The United States Department of Health and Human Services offer some information on grants that can be helpful in getting the financial aid necessary to enroll in these programs.

The first resource is the Nursing Scholarship Program, this program every year provides 200 or more scholarships/grants to those students who qualify. The idea of this award is that the recipients of these grants have to agree to work no less than 2 years after graduation at a high need for nursing institution. The scholarship or grant would then cover tuition and all extra expenses necessary and a takehome pay of $ 1000 monthly. These grants can only be given to students who are fill time nursing students in an Undergrad accredited Nursing Program.

Another great way to enhance your financial responsibility for Nursing is the Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students. This is a federally funded program that allows nursing students who cannot afford and are a severe financial disadvantage of paying for school. The programs that are eligible are Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Veterinary School and Dental Hygiene Programs. You can apply for these scholarships at your College’s financial aid office. There are also State Funded Grants for Nursing Students; currently there are 38 states that have this type of funding. If you are interested in these grants, check your local State Education Department.

There are also Professional Grants for Nursing Students. These grants are there for nurses who are in the critical care, cancer care, pediatric, public health, emergency room nurses and geriatrics just to name a few. These programs are the American Association Of Nurse Anesthetists, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Emergency Nurses Foundation Association and the American Academy of Critical Care Nurses just to name a few.

These scholarships each have their own eligibility requirements. If you are interested in becoming a Nurse and the only thing that is standing in your way is financial help then it would be in your best interest to start looking into grants that can help you pay for college. If you are still in High School and you are interested in becoming a Nurse talk to your guidance counselor and find out how to apply for these grants.

They may even know of other grants available to help with Nursing School. Every student deserves an education and with nurses scarce it would be great to see more grants given out. Talk to your parents and check online there are so many resources out there but all you have to do is look hard enough.
