    When we say that everyone deserves an education that means everyone. Everyone from the mentally challenged to the physically impaired, for students who are impaired visually have a right to an education and the right to funding for that education. Though it can be a challenge to find scholarships, they are out there and are ready to be applied for. One of the most popular places to search for scholarships is the American Council of the Blind.

    This organization helps legally blind full time students who are working at a post secondary education level in either academic or vocational programs. This council has over 24 different scholarships that can be applied for. In order to meet the eligible requirements you must be legally blind in both eyes and have a 3.3 grade point average or better.

    You can also try the Association of Blind Citizens Scholarship Program. This program has given out $ 10,000 in scholarships every year. You will need a copy of your high school transcripts or if you are already attending College you will need those transcripts so far as well. You will also need to write a short 300 to 500 word essay that you have to hand it via email or any a CD. In this essay you will have to state how the money if given to you will help you achieve your academic goals.

    The American Foundation for the Blind Scholarships has many scholarships available. The smallest award is $ 500.00 and the maximum is $ 1,500.00. In order to apply for this scholarship you have to have proof of being a United States Citizen and proof of being legally blind is needed. You must also include a personal essay that will outline the goals, include any work experience that you may have and what you are going to use the money for. This will help you receive the funds faster. You will also need official school transcripts as well as documentation that proves that you have been accepted to a post secondary school.

    There are a lot of scholarships out there for the visually impaired, talk to a guidance counselor and see if they can get you the applications or where you an apply for them. Finding these scholarships can be frustrating if you don’t know where to look. You want to secure as much financial funding as you can for school. You may even take out some federal loans as well but securing enough funding is essential for those students who wish to go to College put need help paying for it.

    Talk to your high school guidance counselor or talk to the financial aid office at your College and see if they can recommend scholarships for the visually impaired that we have not mentioned here.
