Different Types of Scholarships

    There are two basic types of scholarships, the leadership and the academic scholarships. The academic scholarships are given out by the College and some leadership scholarships are given out by the school and others by Corporate Sponsors. One of these leadership scholarships is from Pepsi; they have a scholarship called the Quaker, Tropicana and Gatorade Quality, Trust and Growth Scholarship Program. There are some requirements such as you have to attend one of the following schools

    • City College of New York • Howard University • Northeastern University • Penn State University • St Joseph’s University • SUNY Binghamton • Temple University • University at North Carolina at Chapel Hill • Virginia Tech

    This scholarship is a grant of $ 10,000 and it is a renewable scholarship. Some of the requirements that must be met are that these students must be enrolled at these schools and have completed 45 semester hours under their belts. They must have a 3.25 grade point average and have a record that shows examples of leadership and public service. If you have done some volunteer work that would be a great example.

    This Pepsi Scholarship is just one of many corporate scholarships out there. Some of the other popular scholarships are:

    • American Rhodes Scholars • Bank of America Student Leaders • Best Buy Scholarships • Gates Millennium Scholars Program • HSF/WalMart Stores Inc Scholarship • Dell Scholars Program

    These are just a few of many different scholarships out there. For most you have to be either a college sophomore, Junior or Senior. Read the eligibility requirements very carefully and make sure that you meet all of the necessary requirements. As for academic scholarships that can be provided by not limited to the College you are attending. These scholarships do require a certain grade point average and every scholarship is different. If you are interested in applying for these scholarships, make sure that you request the information early and make sure you fill it out correctly.

    There are so many scholarships out there waiting to be won, but you have to really do some research to find the ones that apply to you. If you know you have a grade point average of 3.0 and the requirement is a 3.5 and higher, chances are that students that meet those requirements will most likely get those scholarships. There is scholarship for everyone; you just have to know where to look.

    Talk to your guidance counselor and see if they can point you in the right direction when it comes to locating the perfect scholarship for you. Here is a tip that may help you find the right scholarship, search for the scholarship you are looking for. For example, if you are attending a community college, there are scholarships that are designed for students going to these schools. If you are an Accounting Major there are scholarships for that too. You can search for scholarships by Major, by Heritage and Nationality and by Occupation. There are thousands of different scholarships out there and waiting for you.
