Some students fear the essay because they don’t know what to write. We have complied a list of tips of how to conquer your fear of the College Essay. Some admissions departments weigh in heavily regarding the essay, sometimes more than the application itself. If you follow these guidelines and create a great essay your admissions into the school of your choice will seem more like a dream than a nightmare.

When it comes to these essays, Colleges want to see something personal, they want to see something handwritten. Anyone can answer a question on a preprinted form. Colleges are looking for more; they are looking for a student that can offer their school something as well. One part of your essay is to write something about yourself. Write a description of your self, for example, if you have a 3.0 grade pint average mention that, if you like to learn about new things and see new places write that. If you got into a fistfight last week, don’t write that. Keep it truthful but keep it interesting.

One thing the Colleges are looking for is originality, don’t exaggerate or embellish too much. Keep it simple yet interesting. Showcase your passion for learning and your passion for your own future. Since the essay is designed to help you get into College, it would a good idea to make sure that you read the essay over and over again. Check for spelling errors, grammar errors and sentence structure. Remember you don’t have to sit down all at once and write the essay; this can be something that you start at the beginning of your senior year. You can have a hundred drafts, it’s ok you don't have to use the first draft you write.

There are some things that you should be warned about. As we mentioned before, your essay should be original. Do not under any circumstance plagiarize any work from a book or even off the web. If a College suspects that you have plagiarized and they prove it, then your application will be rejected and chances of going to that school are slim to none. You may have writer’s block when you start the essay, stay away from the tempting Paid Services.

This is a very bad idea, not everyone is a writer but if you use your own words and your own sincerity the College will see that. If you want to write the essay and then have a professional service edit or proof read that is ok. But always stay true to yourself and even if it isn’t the most interesting essay in the world. Colleges can see the work you put into it and that you take your education very seriously and those are the students that they want in their schools.
