With College soon approaching for High School Seniors, wouldn’t you like to know that your funding has been secured and put into place? If you have just started to gather your information on student loans and financial aid, you should know that all Colleges and Universities have a program called the Work Study Program. This is a free way to pay off some of your College tuition. There are two different types of work study; one of the Federal Work Study or FWS and the other is the Non Federal Work Study or Non FWS.

The Federal Work Study Program is an award of financial air that is given to students who can prove that they are in need of financial aid and they can meet the eligibility requirements. To get the Federal Work Study you will need to fill out the FAFSA or Free Application for Federal Student Aid. On the application there is a box what asks if you are interested in the in Student Employment, you have to mark this box yes. If you are deemed eligible you will receive a financial aid award letter. The amount of the award will depend on how early you fill out your application, your level of need for the aid and how much your College has available for this funding.

If you are eligible the jobs that you can get will be related to the field of community service and in the fields that you are studying. These jobs can be located either on campus or off. The jobs located off the campus are all companies that are not for profit or public agencies that have been checked out by the College. These jobs will pay you the federal minimum wage and the amount of hours will depend on your schooling. Remember it is work study and study comes first.

The Non Federal Work Study Program is not at all based on the amount of money that you need. This is the more traditional workstudy; there is a need to fill out the FAFSA. When you apply to the school for admissions, inquire about the Work Study Program. These jobs are all on campus and they work more with your class schedule than the Federal Work Study. These jobs can range from anything related to your field of study to cafeteria or office jobs too. How much you earn will depend on where you work and how many hours.

To become eligible for the Non Federal Work Study Program, you will need the FAFSA and this application will also depend on your financial need. If you are looking for more information on what Work Study Program that your College offers, contact your College of choice’s Financial Aid Office. You will get a better understanding what school has the best opportunities to work and study. Choosing a College may be tough but securing the right Work Study Program may take a bit more research.
