    If you started out your college career in a city school or community college and you are now ready to transfer to a state school there are some things that you need to know. There are things you need to do before transferring to another school and there are things to know as you transfer to a new school. There are also some things that you should know after you transfer. We have complied a short list of some of the things that you will need. Let’s start with the things to know before you transfer to a different school.

    Before you make that decision to transfer you should really put a lot of thought into choosing the college that you want to go to. Since you already have some credits under your belt, it would be a shame to not be able to carry over either all or the majority of these credits. Find out from the school that you want to go to, if they will accept all of the credits you already have. You should also make sure that the college you are thinking of has everything that could want in an academic program.

    You will also need a copy of your college transcripts. Go to your registrar’s office and they will provide a copy for you for a small fee. If you are still unsure what college would the right one, talk to your advisor at your school now and see if they can help you narrow down your choices. Once you have decided which school to attend, you should give yourself some time to transfer. Make sure that if there are deadlines to meet that you meet them well before they pass. You should call the school’s advisor office and talk to them about transferring and see if there is anything that you need to do.

    After you transfer, find out which of your credits actually made it through. Some will and unfortunately some won’t. The more that get accepted the better they are. You will also want to make sure that your financial aid is in tact. Some scholarships or grants may have a policy of transferring schools and you may need to apply again for the transfer school. Transferring schools sounds pretty simple but there is so much that goes into the planning.

    Transferring from one college to another is very common among universities, so it is nothing new to them when you transfer in. You will be transferring in at the start of a new semester so you won’t be behind in any classes. You may have to get used to being on a larger campus but you will find your way around in no time. You may have to start making new friends again but that will come in time. Education is very important to your future and if have chose to continue your education at a different campus then you have to take your education seriously.
