    Joining the Marines Corps can be a very exciting time for the right person. If you are considering joining the Corps then you should know some of the traditions of the Marines. Their first and foremost tradition is First to Fight, when needed the Marines will be the first branch of military on the scene. Whether it is overseas or right here at home the Corps is ready for action. The Marines have a reputation for being called America’s 911 Force. The Marines have their ground and air support teams ready to go on a moments notice.

    The next tradition is the Marine Core Values. Marines and anyone joining the Marines are held with the highest of standard both ethically and morally. You must have respect for other and not just for those in the Marines but also for those you are helping. All Marines are expected to act in a responsible way that would benefit anyone who is a Marine.

    Another tradition is the Semper Fidelis, this is the bond that all Marines share. It is a Latin phrase and it means Always Faithful or you may recognize it as Semper Fi. This means that you must always remain committed to the mission that you are executing to each Marine and the United States. Your loyalty must lie with the United States and the Corps at all times.

    The Marines take their traditions very seriously. This includes the Oath that every Marine takes. Each person must pledge himself or herself to the United States Constitution. This Oath is carried with you from the day you enlist into the Marines and throughout your entire Marine career. The Marines take every tradition seriously even their Music. Music has been apart of the Corps since the beginning. The Corps have a team of musicians that perform for the White House and at special White House Ceremonies.

    In fact the Marines’ Hymn is the most well know military hymn of all the military branches. Each Marine will be able to recite the first three stanzas by heart. The last major tradition of the Marine is the Silent Drill Platoon. Marines carry bayoneted rifles and will line up in their blue dress uniforms and in a rhythmic slap the rifles will be caught by the Marines wearing white leather gloves. This Silent Drill Platoon offers skill and discipline.

    Each member of the Silent Drill Platoon are hand picked to represent the Marine Corps it is a great honor to be apart of this tradition. Marines are a shining example of what the military should be like. Every Marine respects the others and all Marines show up and get ready to defend the United States and carry out missions of helping others in other countries like Africa. If you decide on a career in the Marines, you should know that it is no joke and it will change your life.
