The College Admissions Process

If you are a senior in High School, this upcoming year you will start thinking about College Admissions. Applying for College can be a very scary time for a lot of student. We have put together a list that can help you understand the admissions process. Before you can apply for College, you will need to have some documentation to assist you in the process. Some of the documentation that you may need is the Application for Admission from every College you wish to attend. You will need your official SAT or ACTY test scores. You will need high school transcripts and the application fee.

Those are just the common documentation. Some Colleges will require that you compose an essay, which are a very important part of the application process. Most Colleges have admissions standards like GPA’s or Class Ranking. You will also have to meet the residency standards. Some require that you are a legal resident of the United States. You will have to read all of the information provided to apply for the school.

Now, if the College has accepted your application then you will receive in the mail am acceptance package. This application and necessary paperwork must be completed by the student before the deadline. You will also want to read all of the necessary paperwork that comes with admissions. Finding out if you get into the College of your choice is easy, but once that acceptance letter comes in, is when you really can start looking for funding.

Most lenders, scholarships or grants will want to know which school you will be attending since the money for tuition is typically sent to the school and whatever is left is given to you. It can be nerve wracking waiting for that acceptance letter from College. Especially if you have your heart set on a certain school. Every school basically has the same admissions process; some schools have some different requirements.

You also want to secure housing if necessary. You want to make sure that you have all of the documentation for financial aid. You will need your parents’ tax returns, mortgage information, income information and Expected Family Contribution. There is so much information that is needed and if you are applying for every financial aid application available, you will need this information over and over again.

You will want to stay organized and make folders for every College and every financial aid loans that you apply for. You will want to keep your information organized in the case of additional information is needed. This can be a very stressful time in a student’s life and the key to remaining calm is to start applying for Colleges and Financial aid early on in the school year. The less stress you will have if you plan ahead. Have your parents help you with the applications and the loan paperwork. Keep calm and make sure that you fill out all of the applications properly.
