How To Choose The Right Friends At College
One of the best parts about going to school is that you get to see all of the different people that are now in your school. These students will be different that the kids that you went to school with your whole life. If you are a student who is dedicated to getting good grades then you will want to concentrate more on studying than going to parties. This is not to say that you canít have friends, but the friends that you make, should be met through classes, cafeteria and not keg parties. If you are living in a dorm, then this may be the best way to make friends. These are students that you will see everyday and these are the students that you get to know best.
Your roommate for example is a great way to start making friends. You can start by getting to know your roommate and if they have friends then you can get to know their friends and vice versa. By including your roommate with your friends and making an effort to know people from your dorm then you should have no trouble at all making friends. If you are a commuter then you could try making friends with students in your classes. Usually, students in their first year have trouble making friends and often become depressed about it but remember that you are not alone.
If you are into sports then try out for a College team, this is a great way to make friends. Most Colleges have gyms and social events where students gather; these are great ways to make friends. Some say that the best way to make friends is to join a fraternity or a sorority. This may not be for everyone but there are some students who like being a part of a group and they will still need to main their academic standards too.
If you still have close friends from High School who are attending your College, this could be a starting point to making friends. Making friends is all about College too but it should not be your main focus. You are there to study and get good grades. Friends are a great way to unwind from a long day of classes and a get way to find additional support. College can be very intimidating for some students and making friends may not come that easily. As we said before there are students who are in the same situation as you and they are feeling the same way too.
If you make only a handful of friends in College then you have made some good friends. You donít need to know everyone on Campus and there is no need to get upset if the first day if you donít talk to anyone. Donít stress about it and it will happen. You have all semester to make friends, concentrate on your studies and the rest will follow.
