Burlington has more, too. Its great Main Street district is pedestrianfriendly and filled with restaurants … pubs … bars … shopping … and funfilled nightlife (designed for goallevening college kids from the University of Vermont, of course). Burlington is also home to Shelburne Farm, an incity park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, Sr. the man who designed New York’s famed Central Park. Shelburne Farm is filled with hiking trails, and breathtaking views of the Green Mountains, Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks. It is truly inspiring and memorable. The town is also home to Ben & Jerry’s worldfamous ice cream factory and there is worldclass skiing available at nearby ski resorts. Here is one more thing worth noting: Vermont has the only United States Senator who openly calls himself a Socialist … that is Senator Sanders. His home is in this picturesque and stunningly beautiful college town. And that should come as no surprise. If you are getting ready to attend a university and you don’t mind cold, snowfilled winters, you should consider applying to the University of Vermont.
