Professional Wrestling: Sports and Entertainment

Related Articles

Professional Wrestling is known as sports and entertainment. Alot of people say its fake. Others are dedicated fans. The truth is, Professional Wrestling is a real tough business to break in to. Alot of beginning wrestlers wanna make it to WWE, TNA, Ring Of Honor, or wherever. Ill break down some of the things behind the curtains of Pro Wrestling. Vince McMahon took over WWE back when it was known as WWF and stated that Wrestling was scripted. Well theres a reason for that. The entertainment part needs to be scripted so everything can be executed smoothly. If it were up to wrestlers there would be alot of arguements and messups. Take a look at what happened to WCW. Eventhough Vince shouldnt have said anything about wrestling being entertainment and just left it like that. Theres also a reason why the matches are predetermined. Well put it this way, would you like to see a whole wrestling show dedicated to one match? Didnt think so. Matches need to have a predetermined winner. That does not mean the looser of the match can have an excuse to lag in his match. Two wrestlers have to "sell" their match and have an outstanding preformance for the fans. Wrestling shows like TNA and WWE need to have a storyline between two wrestlers. The Babyface (good guy) and the Heel (bad guy). To bring a storyline to life two wrestlers need a character or a gimmick to sell themselves to the fans. Bret the Hitman Hart describes the three things wrestlers should have. The Look: Does the wrestler look believable or not. The Charisma: This is basically the ability to sell yourself to the fans. Like having your face on Tshirts, appear on tv shows, movies, radio etc. The Skill: The skill is based on your wrestling abilities. amateur wrestling, technical wrestling, or all of the above. Chris Benoit, Ric Flair, and AJ Styles are great examples of the skill. Hulk Hogan was a 10 of 10 on look and charisma. But, his skill was like a 1 because he didnt really wrestle. As said before, every wrestler needs a gimmick. Lets say you were gonna wrestler and your gonna wrestle Triple H. Triple H comes out and spits water from the ring. Fans go wild or boo. You come out and spit water. People yawn. What happend? you copied Triple H's gimmick. You need your own gimmick and saying. If you decide to become "Skunkhead" have a catch line such as "If you dare to step in the ring with me i will stink you!" then you have to find a way to sell it. The moves are often talked about as being fake, and the punches are missed. Well, the moves hurt. (trust me i did wrestling training at a wrestling school). If someone slams you on the mat it hurts. There are no springs or a matress in a wrestling ring. Thats why wrestling moves should be done every day so your body can get used to it. Now you probably never paid attention to this. Say if you bodyslam your opponent in a match. Your opponent when he hits the floor will land on his back with his arms spread and his feet on the mat. The reason for this is so the pain wont go directly to your back. Now for the punches, If you wrestle Ric Flair and you punch him and miss him by a long shot, he is NOT going to take the fall for you. Instead he will point at you and laugh, show the crowd how smart he is, and do his famous strut. If Ric Flair punches you and misses and you take the fall, then your status will suffer, you wont get enough air time, and Ric Flair will continue on being a superstar. Why? because you messed yourself up. Not only will Vince McMahon think your pathetic, the fans will point out your mess up and laugh. Finally the life of a wrestler.Say you wrestle for WWE and your in the B shows instead of the A shows. B shows always travel and superstars from the A show will get more breaks. Ok, your a B show wrestler, its 6:00 am, you eat breakfast if you can in the hotel. you have to find the arena. and the show starts at 5:00pm. You still need to workout, and have lunch. You still have 50 miles to the arena. Once you get there you have to look for the booker who will tell you who your opponent is and who will win. Then you have to find your opponent and have a small rundown of how your match is gonna be like. For example "Ill do this move then you do this move, then well go from there." Then youll have to continue this the next day and next day. So if you love or hate wrestling. Professional wrestlers are super athletes who go through hours of training. There are still Alot of stuff i left out on this article but this will cover the basics.
