Penguinos, and PiratesRelated ArticlesI happen to be a pretty big sports fanatic, and I love every pittsburgh sports team accept pitt,I love West Virginia when it comes to college sports.I am writing this to vent, and to show the differences between the pirates, and penguins who at one time were in a simillar postion, but one has reason to the top in there sports, and the other is still one of the worst teams in there sports, and with very little sign of hope.
Before a time of Sidney Crosby, and Evgeni Malkin the penguins were in a similiar spot in there sports as the pirates were with theres, I know getting Sidney Crosby was luck, and Evgeni Malkin was a product of being bad the penguins have scouted well with the like of Ryan Whitney,Ryan Malone,Kris Letang who are solid contributers to the team, and guys like erik christensen, and colby armstrong, also angelo espisito have help them get marion hossa, and they are possible the favorite to win the stanley cup.
They happen to have a general manager who has not spent the big bucks to go after the name, but has gotten pieces to make a team,Jarko Rutuu,Mark Eaton,Petr Sykora, and one of the best signings of the year in Ty Conklin who when Fluery also known as the flower is the main, but not only reason the penguins may get the rop seed, and home ice advantage in the playoffs, the other is Geno Malkin, who is crosbys abscence is in a postion to win a scoring title.
Now i know alot of this could not be done with out a salary cap wich has leveled out the playing field, but has also made it nearly impossible to keep all the team together so the penguins will have some difficult moves to make in about the next offseason, but knowing the penguins this year, and many after are going to cotend for the stanly cup,and with atleast sidney crosby going to be there for along while it is a great time to be a penguin fan.
Now on to the pirates who if you starting back to the trade of aramis ramirez where you got back bobby hill, matt bruback, and "every day" jose hernandez has truly been the downfall for the pirates, to signing made jeremy burnitz, but that signing was alright, because jeremy burnitz was so fried from years of drugs he was fun to hear in a interview, back to bad signings raul mondesi, tony armas jr.,chris stynes, joe randa, bad trades getting bobby hill, matt bruback, and "every day" jose hernandez, and then signing him for 2 years after you let hiom go the following year you traded for him, matt lawton, trading oliver perez.that one looks super.
letting cris young go.think of a rotation that has tom gorzaelenny, ian snell, oliver perez, chrisyoung, and paul maholm that would be preety good, but the piartes managment has let every pirate player, and fan down for a long period of time.this all could change this year with the curse of the double b maybe gone with barry bonds maybe not playing,i over the last few years have thought that they either had to sign him or when he retired the pirates would be a winner.
In ending this the last regigm was not at all what they could have been, but were to stupid to be any better.if you go over the drafts, and redraft them they could be a winning team as we speak.I get having to trade aramis ramirez, but don't give him to the team with the first offer whether it was financial or not you don't give away a player like that, also if the phillies were offering ryan howard for kris benson, and the buccos said we wanted more i think dave littlefield should never work in base ball again along with anyone who had any say in the call of noy doing the trade.
We have to give the current regigm a little time to see if they cane do it right.Hope is at the end of the rainbow,or road whatever one you like.Prospects like Steven Pearce,Neil Walker, Brian Bixler Andrew McCutchin, and Duke Welker, and Musami Kuwata, don't acctualy mean the last one i just like him.The trades in the trade deadline are important, casue the return will be big for the sucsess of this franchise to win.I hope Jason Bay,Jack Wilson, and Xavier Nady, and other have good years so the return will be some high ceiling, high quality prospects.
There is hope for the pirates, but it's just a bit more depressing to have it atleast be three years from now.Let's go buc's!
