Fingerboarding or Just a Timewaster

Well as we all know Fingerboards were popular in the 4th and 5th grade, but there is a underground following in the ways of Skate. These people dont just fingerboard for fun and see what they can do.They have taken their finger skills to the next level. These people have practiced their fingers raw untill they could do almost every trick a Pro can do on a real board and more. They have seemingly taken this common pastime and made it into a business. Some of them have started companies and have been selling homemade wood decks, Rails, Ledges, Halfpipes, and more effeciant skate parts such as Bushings and Wheels. Some have started teams and have been making videos and selling them over the internet. Most of them are just like the countless people trying to become a pro in skating but in Fingerboarding. Somehave tooken to Techdeck.com and have been chatting about How To's and tips. But the more "Hardcore" ones have made their own forums and have been holding contests and such. I will admit that this does seem like a pretty petty thing to be into, but remember for some thats the only thing that they can do to escape the everyday grind of real skating. I also admit I am one of the many people that is into Fingerboarding as a sport but I do it for fun and as a pastime. The most asxtonishing thing about this whole phenomenon is that these skaters arnt just the run of the mill 1014 age range. I have seen 41 year old men with wives and kids still doing it since the 80's when the only thing you had to make a board with is Baseball cards glued together. Not to mention that it isnt gender specific either. There are guys and girls that fingerboard. This fingerboarding thing has spread every where from LA to NY, from Florida to Washington, from Belgium to china, from Russia to Brazil. Its a world wide community of fingerboarders that love what they do and dont care what other people think. So is fingerboarding a sport or just something to do as a timewaster? I would say that its both. For some Fun, for others life. Fingerboarding as a whole is something that is universal and I dont think that people will ever stop being amazed at what people can do with their fingers. Fingerboarding is what you want it to be.
