Greenhouse Effects The Sharks of Our Lives

This article is based on real scientific research. Each student in my class was instructed to write an article on Greenhouse Effect by the Science Department in my schools. I hope by understanding the dangerous effects caused by the Greenhouse, whoever reads this article could contribute some helps to their communities.

Everything we do and have on our earth always has something to do with the Greenhouse and its effects, including all things around us, doesn’t matter if it’s small or big. The ozone layer we have around the troposphere is comprised of a blanket of ozone molecules. It protects all life on earth against the deadly ultraviolet rays of the sun. This warfare against the ozone layer continues to this day. But on the other hand, the Earth is covered constantly in a spectrum of radiant energy from the sun, energy that is essential to support all life. A small section of this spectrum is made of high
energy radiation including ultraviolet light. Much of this light is filtered out, through absorption in the atmosphere and reaching the earth’s surface, which started to cause problems on our daily life, both big and small. I think this radiation is starting to impact on the stability of the global ecosystem, our air and nature of the weather and climate; and on our health and welfare.

The first reason I have is the greenhouse as a problem on our global ecosystem. It is because all life inside it depends on our supplies on earth. If the greenhouse carbon started to affect all supplies, automatically all life will get affected too. The carbon influence plant life cycles including timing of flowering, leaf drop, dormancy, and death. They also affect the weakness of plants to disease, drought, temperature, and pollution. Now all our animals and the species are in heavy competition for food, shelter, and space because the carbon is ruining their habitats. When the carbon started to disrupt the terrestrial food chain that would be a really big problem because we are on that food chain also. We couldn’t let this happen, could we?

The second reason that also supports my point is the greenhouse as a problem on our air and nature. It affects our quality of the air and nature of the weather and climate because of the gases it has. The carbon dioxide rules most of the gases; it fills 50% of the greenhouse. Changes in the weather affect global and local cycles and atmospheric processes such as rainfall and cloud formation. For example, changes in the flow of sulphur and nitrogen could reduce the nutrients supplies important to plants. Without these nutrients, plants can’t store more carbon inside. This carbon comes from carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The carbons produce toxic air and water pollutants. They also have a positive feedback influence on global warming. In the end, they increase the transformation of acid compounds, which cause acidification of soils and waters. All things that we eat everyday come from the earth, whether they’re meats or vegetables. If the carbon ruins all these wonderful useful things, how could we eat and stay alive?

At last, my third reason, supporting my point, which is how the greenhouse has slowly affected our health and welfare. The deadly ultraviolet rays really are problem on our health. They cause mostly skin cancers and cataracts. The rays also has the ability to suppress the human immune system leaving the body weak to many diseases caused by bacteria and viruses entering through the skin and affect it. Increased the level of the rays can have impacts on other aspects of human welfare such as disruptions to our food supply, deterioration of the quality of the air, water and soils that we need, more contribution to the greenhouse effect, resultant climate change, and deterioration of plastics and other materials widely used by society.

In conclusion, after considering all the reasons stated above, I really believe that the Greenhouse effect is very dangerous to our bodies, as well as the environments. If we, as a united community, don’t contribute in handling these problems, caused by the greenhouse, our lives will soon be ate up. By the time we realized its effects, it might be too late for us to reach proper measures.
