A New Cold War anyone?

I don't know how many people in the United States have actually studied their history; but I am one of the people who has and I want to know why noone else seems to be saying that this country is headed off of a cliff. Anyone who can read can make direct correlations between what President Bush is saying and has said about terrorists and the long held Cold War ideology of "You're either with us or against us." In fact it doesn't take a genius to point out the obvious corrolation between the Truman Doctrine and The Bush Doctrine...their speeches are almost word for word. So I keep wondering, are we headed for another Cold Wartype situation. It seems highly plausible to me, with Iran on the verge or gaining access to nuclear weapons and other countries such and Pakistan (a shaky ally of ours) and India having access to nuclear technology it seems not outside of the realm of reason that we could end up being 10 seconds away from pushing the "big red button". I'm not sure people today realize how close the country has come to a nuclear war. In the late 1990s, long after the Soviet Union had disbanded, their outdated technology picked up an unidentified object heading towards them and Russia was within minutes of launching an attack. We should all know this stuff as far as I'm concerned because knowing the not so distant past might keep up away from something like a nuclear holocaust. I'm not saying that will necessarily happen, but when this administration doesn't hesitate to bomb the hell out of some country based on falty evidence, who's to say that they wouldn't use highpowered nuclear weapons on other countries? The more I learn about this subject the scarier the whole thing becomes because I certainly do not want to be present when the leaders of this world decide to blow everyone up. I mean the whole process by which to avoid nuclear war is called MAD, shouldn't that clue people in? Mutually Assured Destruction? Well, that was the policy from 1944 to 1991. I have no idea if anyone up above is really looking into this, or if they may have changed their minds, but the whole things scares me to death. It could be interesting to be part of a Cold War era though, I was never a big part of the last one, I was 2 when it officially ended and hadn't been born at the beginning of the end. Ya know, fearing for your life everyday because the President gets on TV and says that he will begin bombing your worst enemy who WILL bomb you back in 5 minutes, AS A JOKE?!?! Pardon me, but Reagan was crazy, who plays that sort of joke on the American public? Anyway, with our economy going down the tubes and the widening gap between the rich and the poor, it's there if anyone really cared to look, I'm not sure our country could survive another war with stakes as high as the Cold War, hopefully those big wigs up in Washington get it all sorted out and I'm just crazy. Until I know for sure I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed.
