Gun Violence and School Safety don't mixRelated ArticlesSep 25, 2006 Duane Morrison took six girls hostage at Platte Canyon High School in Bailey Colorado. One girl was shot and killed. Only two days later, in Cazenovia Wisconsin, a student shot his principal because the principal disciplined him. Three days after this, at an Amish school in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Charles Carl Roberts IV lined adolescent girls up at gun point killing five of them. In less than a week these three shooting occurred, yet people still argue the safety in schools. After all this, one of the only ways the nations cracked down on school safety is bringing up the idea of allowing teachers to carry guns. Sure, teachers would be prepared if someone came into the school taking hostages; but the chances of aggressive kids getting a hold of these guns would be higher. Not to mention that teachers could shoot someone just as well as a random person walking into the schools. So far in the 20062007 school year, there have been 17 nonfatal shootings; this is just since August 1, 2006. In the 20052006 school year there were 24 shootings ending in death, as opposed to three in the 20032004 school year. What are we going to do about this? How do we make it known that we need safer schools? With all the shootings in the past weeks, months, and even years, let’s hope we start to feel more protected.
