There may come a time when you will want to go on a diet. With the pressures of school and your desire to look good and fit, sometimes teenagers will take to diet pills and starvation in order to lose weight quickly. By doing this you can cause some problems with your heart and your health. It is never a good idea to lose weight quickly; this could put some pressure on your heart. The right thing would be to go to the doctor and have them put you on a sensible diet. With pressure from high school or college, you may not want to do it the “ right” way.

If you are one of those people who don’t like diet advice and believe that you can lose weight on your own then at least consider some sound advice. Some students may take to exercise compulsively, this is not necessary. The key to a good diet is to eat smart and exercise for at least 30 minutes every day. The exercise could consist of aerobics or regular exercises like push ups, sit ups, arm and leg lifts. You could add a little weight training as well as long as you don’t over do it.

There are exercise DVD’s that you can buy that offer the best workouts for the right amount of time. If you live near a school, they have running tracks for Track and Field, try walking around the track a couple of times and when you feel comfortable, try jogging around the track. These are great ways to exercise. You don’t have to exercise 3 hours a day in order to lose weight. Try moderation and you can increase as you go on.

The second way to lose weight is to eat right, this doesn’t mean that you have to eat salads and drink only water. If you don’t drink water on a daily basis, it would be a good idea to start. It is recommended that you drink 8 to 10 8 ounce glasses of water a day, but if you don’t usually drink water then you can start with 3 to 4 8 ounce glasses of water a day and work your way up. When you exercise it is a great way to stay hydrated, some people make the mistake of drinking Gatorade or a Power Water but these have sugar and calories while water has none. If you want to spice up your water try Crystal Light or take a piece of lemon, lime, orange or cherries into your water.

You don’t have to eat salads to lose weight just eat everything in moderation. If you drink soda switch to diet soda. If you eat bagels with heavy butter, switch to a light spread of butter. If you eat 3 slices of pizza cut it back to 11/2. Try cutting back and if you combine the food moderation and the exercise moderation then you will soon see the pounds come off.
